About Michael

Winner of a 2018 Tom Longboat Award, Michael Linklater, himself a proud Nehiyaw (Cree) descending from the Thunderchild First Nation, located in Treaty 6 Territory, plays 3 on 3 basketball, a sport recently included into the Olympic games. Currently, Linklater is a part of Canada's efforts to qualify for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

When asked what winning the Tom Longboat award meant to him, Linklater said:

"It was an honour to be recognized with the Tom Longboat award.  I am truly humbled by this recognition.  Reading about Tom Longboat and his accomplishments shows how remarkable of a person he was. I would like to congratulate all the past recipients and nominees for their inspirational achievements."
